Dr. Zaw earned his medical degree from the Institute of Medicine (2), Rangoon, Burma. He completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx, New York, a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at VA Hospice & Palliative Care Center, VAPAHCS, Palo Alto, California and a fellowship in geriatrics at Montefiore Hospital, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York.

Dr. Vyjeyanthi (VJ) Periyakoil is a nationally recognized leader in palliative care. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, and the Director of the Stanford/VA Palliative Care Fellowship Program. She is the PI for this end of life curricular project and also the Director of the VA Nationwide Palliative Care Network. Her current projects focus on cross-cultural issues in aging and end-of-life. In addition, she has a keen interest in the pedagogy of virtual education.
